Evodia, this is a name that popped into my head as soon as I'd created my first piece - bowl like at the top, as thin a stem as I dared to turn and a soft bulbous shape at the base. This was one of my first projects confirming that a little knowledge doesn't stop you creating an image of what you imagine in your head. It's only now that I've been told that beginners 'shouldn't be able to do that'. Don't listen to others, let the creative juices flow.

I had some wood from a recently pruned branch and wondered what would happen if I turned it whilst it was still fresh. I now realise that it's 'a thing' - green wood. The turnings made fabulous long shavings and it was a joy to turn. Water and wood splattering everywhere, such a fabulous experience...and it's not dusty.

Greenwood ready for turning
Turned off centre, so I could keep the original bark - natural shellac finish
More original bark on this one - loved the shape
Again, I turned this off centre, so much so that the stem almost collapsed!
